Training Camps

During the year several training activities are organized for students interested in deepening their study of olympiad mathematics.
These activities may be local (one-day events) or residential (lasting several days), and allow students to work on olympiad topics together with other motivated participants.

Local training camps

The Treviso District Coordinator periodically organizes one-day training events, often called ā€œmini-campsā€, intended for students who wish to improve their olympiad preparation.

These activities are usually communicated by the school olympiad coordinator.

These meetings are an excellent opportunity to meet other students and work on problems that are more advanced than those normally encountered in school.

The camps organized by the District Coordinator at the “L. da Vinci” High School in Treviso are generally structured as follows:

  • introduction of one or more olympiad topics
  • problem-solving sessions, both individual and group-based
  • discussion of solutions
  • a short team competition at the end

1ļøāƒ£ The first camp took place on February 2, 2024, with activities dedicated to:

  • Applications of Euler’s formula, graph theory, number theory (Prof. Zangiacomi)
  • Chinese remainder theorem, Fermat’s little theorem, Euler–Fermat theorem (Prof. Archetti)

2ļøāƒ£ The second camp took place on February 28, 2025, with the following topics:

  • Geometric transformations (Prof. Zangiacomi)
  • ViĆØte’s formulas, Girard–Newton formulas, fundamental inequalities, polynomial congruences (Prof. Archetti)

3ļøāƒ£ The third camp took place on January 23, 2026, and focused on:

  • Valid forms of reasoning in mathematical proofs (Prof. Zangiacomi)
  • Linear and nonlinear Diophantine equations, Pythagorean triples, Pell’s equation (Prof. Archetti)

Residential training camps

In addition to local meetings, there are also residential training camps, which usually last several days and allow for more intensive training activities.

These include national camps organized by the UMI (Italian Mathematical Union), such as the Senior training camp.
For lessons and materials related to the Senior camp, see the dedicated page.

Further information about national camps is often published on OliForum, the forum of the Italian olympiad community, although we also try to publish relevant information here whenever possible.

There are also some residential camps, generally fee-based, organized by mathematical associations or district coordinators. These camps are often open to students from other districts as well, sometimes after a selection process.

Among those we know and that several students from the Treviso district have attended with excellent results, we particularly mention:

This camp, organized by Mathesis Vicentina, takes place every summer (typically around mid-August) at the Istituti Filippin in Paderno del Grappa.

The organizational coordinator is Prof. Francesco Rizzotto, for many years the district coordinator for Vicenza, while the academic coordination is entrusted to Prof. Samuele Maschio of the University of Padua.

The camp includes lectures, exercises, and training activities led by national-level trainers.

Due to the high number of applications, in recent years registration has been subject to limitations or selection. For full details, consult their website.

The National Boarding School of Assisi ā€œPrincipe di Napoliā€ organizes every summer the Assisi Math Summer School, dedicated to preparation for mathematics competitions.

It is a high-level camp, with teachers and trainers from the national olympiad community.

Admission takes place through an initial selection process.
